Features: Invoicing, receiving, and inventory searching (including keyword
and multi field). Automatic/manual ordering and receiving (including electronic
ordering with Ingram/Baker & Taylor plus others), view vendor breaks CD-ROM
interface, automatic loading of new inventory, POS. Line item, entire sale,
and individual customer discounting. Bar code scanning/label generation, customer
mailing lists and labels, invoice message, customer purchase tracking, inventory
and customer categories, inventory attributes, item low-level warning, returns.
Tracks books and nonbook items, exports and imports data files, backup/restore
data files, layaway, special orders, gift certificates tracking, queries, note
taking. Many reports including end-of-day, customer lists, customer purchases,
and inventory by item, category, item history, and attribute. Profit report,
sales, summary, item, reorder, item low-level, and more. Sort, print, view all
files. Built-in calculator and password protection. User-friendly system includes
pull-down menus, pop-up windows, push buttons, pick lists, check boxes, speedbar,
and online help. Microsoft Windows version. Customer membership, bar code items
received, bar code items at POS, automatic vendor returns, custom inventory
and customer query feature, employee time clock, employee scheduling. Power
Wizard for customer help desk information. Import from accounting programs like
Quicken (in development). online credit authorization (in development). Optional:
Accounts receivable, accounts payable, complete mail order, rentals, and multi-store
modules. Query and Report Wizard, Merchant Windows 95 version (runs five times
faster and includes additional features).
Target Environment: Single or multi-store, one or more terminals. Small

Development History: Developer Robert Golieb created a professional
POS system in conjunction with local booksellers and managers. Merchant continues
to be updated with user suggestions. The company has been developing software
and consulting for large and small corporations in the U.S. since 1985.
Standard Configuration/Cost: Runs on IBM PC compatible 386 or greater,
8 MB or greater. Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT. Single and multiple user
included in one package. Multi-user runs on Novell, Windows 95, and other supporting
32-bit Windows environment. Works with dot-matrix, laser, and receipt printers,
bar code readers, cash drawer, and customer pole display. Hardware available.
Software costs $995.
Training: Instruction manual, online help, or optional on-site training
($600/day plus expenses).
Support: Free standard unlimited via fax, mail, Internet, CompuServe.
Extended support: same as standard, with phone (9 a.m.-6 p.m. EST, paging after
hours and on weekends), automatic free updates and upgrades for one year, $450/year.
