[i]merchant
Features: [i]merchant is a Microsoft Windows based retail management
system. It is comprehensive, easy to learn and use, and hardware independent.
It has been designed on Microsoft's .Net framework and uses SQL Server as its
database engine. All areas of the system are fully integrated and changes to
the data including register sales, receiving, shipping, etc. are live. Multi-store
functionality is built into the system. Inventory screens are based on industry
codes and the store has complete control over the fields that appear on them
and where those fields are positioned. Key parameters like book class codes,
condition codes, book types, tender types, etc. are all established by the store
based upon its particular needs and methods of operation. Credit card authorization
is incorporated in the register functions and can be done over the Internet.
[i]merchant links with our online books-in-print database, Venstock.com, from
which titles can be added to the store's inventory and which contains on-hand
quantities for the major book distributors to aid in ordering decisions. The
system can also be integrated with the store's web site to keep inventory information
posted there current. The system's extensive array of unique features can be
seen via a demonstration that can be done at any time on the Internet.
This POS is integrated with the Book Sense Gift Card program. For more information
about costs and upgrades please contact your POS vendor for details. Booksellers
that wish to process Book Sense Gift Cards through their POS need to advise
Book Sense. Please email ABA's Jill Perlstein at [email protected]
or call 1-800-637-0037, ext 1283 for more information.
Standard configuration: [i]merchant will run on a PC or server using
Windows 2000 or later as the operating system. There are no limits on the number
of workstations accessing the data, which is typically held centrally for the
store or chain of stores. Scanning is supported throughout. The system is designed
to open point-of-sale (OPOS) standards for register hardware. System printers
and label printers can be selected by the store.
Target environment: [i]merchant has been designed to meet the needs
of a small store while being fully scalable to support large or multi-store
operations. There are no restrictions as to the size of the database, number
of titles, or number of users on the system.
Support: Support can be selected to meet the needs of the store, from
e-mail response to 24 X 7 telephone access to the customer service department.
The first three months of operation come with unlimited, no charge support.
Square One
Features: A totally scalable system with no limits on the number of
users/workstations or the size of the files. Uses a Windows front end-running
TCP/IP on an Ethernet and an AIX/UNIX back end. The software is modular with
full integration of all modules. Processes/reports run in the background. System
functions include purchasing, receiving, special orders, returns, book club,
point-of-sale, used book receiving, physical inventory, textbooks, rentals,
accounts receivable, accounts payable, and multi-store management. Bar code
scanning of EAN/UPC/SKU formats supported throughout. Electronic ordering with
cascading is incorporated into purchasing. The inventory record contains 6 user-defined
fields and 2 screens of keyword searchable and exportable notes. Up to 10 store-defined
other tenders at POS along with cash, check, and credit cards, which can be
authorized online. Gift certificate and credit slip balances are tracked by
customer. Gift cards can be accepted. Special orders are automatically closed
at POS. A books-in-print database of 1.7 million titles resides on the hard
drive. All users can access it and titles can be placed into store inventory
from it with 1 keystroke. The on-hand quantities at over 20 distributor locations
can be displayed. Customer purchases are tracked and customer mailing lists
and mailing labels created. Store inventory can be exported to the store's web
site and orders taken there automatically transferred and added to the special
order sub-system. Inventory can include book and non-book items with ISBN, UPC,
or store-defined part numbers. Wide reporting capabilities. Much more!
