Subject: Gift Certificate Suspension
Author: Steve

I was dismayed to learn that paper BookSense Certificates are being fazed out. While the gift card option remains, and is actively marketed to us, for a store my size the investment simply isn't worth the reported value gift cards offer.

To date, this year, I have sold only 63 gift certicates. The vast majority of these are redeemed in my store. In large part, this small number is because I believe gift certicates (or cards) should be the very last option offered to my customers. I am in the business of selling books, and knowledge of the books on my shelves makes it possible to find the right book for the customer the vast majority of the time.

Still, the opportunity to provide a gift certificate that could be redeemed in locations throughout the United States was an option that my customers appreciated and that offered a certain degree of added prestige to my store.

The loss of the paper gift certificates is another depreciation in the value of BookSense.
