The History Channel and Book Sense Participate In JFK Week
~ Independent Booksellers Help Make Sense Of The Past ~

November 11, 2003 (Tarrytown, NY)-- November 22, 2003 marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. To commemorate this occasion, Book Sense is joining The History Channel in its week of JFK-themed special programming from November 16 through November 23. Independent bookstores with Book Sense are exhibiting book and counter displays as well as the Book Sense 76 JFK Top Ten book recommendations list. Thousands of public and college libraries around the country also received these materials, and bookstores will be handing out unique bookmarks promoting The History Channel's week of original programming, as well as the book President Kennedy Has been Shot by The Newseum with Susan Bennett and Cathy Trost (Sourcebooks).

The centerpiece of The History Channel JFK week is the November 16 premiere of the unprecedented three-hour documentary, JFK: A Presidency Revealed (8pm/7c). This show features exclusive tapes of The President, previously classified medical records, and interviews with important players in the Presidency. Along with the bookmarks, part of the ongoing Hardcover History partnership between Book Sense and The History Channel, independent bookstores will showcase the JFK Top Ten, featuring new and backlist titles illuminating the life and times of our 35th president. This list of bookseller recommendations was compiled by Book Sense in association with The History Channel. Lists are available at your local independent bookstore with Book Sense or at http://www.bookweb.org/graphics/BookSense/76topten/2003kennedy.pdf.

Judy Klein Frimer, director of brand enhancement at The History Channel commented, "The 40th anniversary of the death of President John Kennedy is an enormously important time for us to look back and reflect upon the impact this presidency had on our lives. We are delighted to be able to work with Book Sense and all of the independent bookstores and libraries that do such an extraordinary job of providing information to the public, by providing them with meaningful materials that can effectively educate and contribute to the awareness of our history."
