Key features in recent software updates include: 13-position Item Code field
that can accommodate ISBN, UPC, or full EAN for tracking non-book merchandise;
two Category fields, four Price fields-List Price, Selling Price, Price2 (cost),
and Net Price, a descriptive Notes page for each record that the store can use
for general purposes or export to a Web site or catalogue, expanded reporting
capabilities, support for BISAC subject codes, expanded sales history tracking,
a Cash Audit program for reconciling cash drawers, and a Mail Order module.
Scheduled features in upcoming Version 14 release include a gift card program
and Internet stock checks.
This POS is integrated with the Book Sense Gift Card program. For more information

Target Environment: Single or multi-user system. IBID also offers centralized
Hub multi-store capabilities for large and small bookstore chains.
Stats: First system installed in 1983; more than 1,000 systems currently
installed in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Paris, Hong
Kong, and Singapore.
Development History: Software developer Richard Sloan wrote the first
release of the software in 1983 in conjunction with independent bookstores in
the San Francisco Bay Area. IBID is now preparing to release IBIDie,
new Windows based Internet Edition. Version 14 of the software.
Standard Configuration/Cost: Sold as a turnkey system or software only,
IBID runs on Pentium IV-based PC compatible computers. Configurations vary depending
on the size of the store. A deluxe 2-user system (includes a computer, POS station
PC terminal, cash drawer, receipt printer, backroom station, modem, barcode
scanner and report printer) is $6,967 plus $200/month for software subscription
and technical support. Additional stations and peripheral hardware can be added,
including a variety of bar code scanners, a label printer, and credit card processing.
IBID also supports "smart stations" -- PCs with full Windows®
and Internet connectivity that can double as IBID workstations. Expandable;

Training: Two days on-site at $450 a day and $400/day thereafter, plus
travel expenses. Average training time needed is two to three days.
Support: Telephone (7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. PST, weekdays; 9:00 a.m. -
5:00 p.m. PST, Saturdays). Software and Support are bundled together in a monthly
fee, starting at $125 per month; support contracts begin at $480 per year, depending
on the size of the store. The average store contract is $500-600 per year. Support
includes software updates free of charge.
